Professionally organised hackers had encrypted large amounts of data in Meyer & Meyer's IT systems during the night of 5 to 6 December 2022. The logistics company adjusted its business processes in order to securely fulfil customer orders. "It is thanks to the remarkable and tireless efforts of our employees, the understanding solidarity of our business partners and the high level of expertise of our service providers that we solved the manifold challenges at this pace," sums up Björn Plantholt, responsible for corporate communications at Meyer & Meyer. "We expect to have to deal with the aftermath of this criminal act for some months to come. However, our focus is now intensively back on offering and optimising services for our customers."
While the IT systems were still being restored, Meyer & Meyer had commissioned IT specialists to conduct a forensic analysis of the incident. This confirmed that the attackers had not only encrypted data, but also stolen it. "Regrettably, our swift and decisive response was unable to prevent the theft," Björn Plantholt continues. The internationally active logistics company with its headquarters in the Fledder district is in close exchange with its business partners, the authorities and specialised IT companies, he said. Meyer & Meyer will continue to invest in its own IT security in the future.
Meyer & Meyer at full power again
Around one and a half months after the cyber attack, Meyer & Meyer says it has restored its usual performance. As the Osnabrück-based logistics company reports, business operations are largely running normally. The IT infrastructure has been consistently rebuilt.
