Meyer & Meyer expands automated logistics centre for flat packed garments in Osnabrück
Osnabrück, 21/03/2018. The fashion logistics specialist Meyer & Meyer, based in Osnabrück, Germany, is expanding its automated logistics centre for flat packed garments opened in 2008 in Osnabrück. With an addition of 20,000 sqm of new usable space, Meyer & Meyer creates the basis for continued growth of existing and potential new customers at the location. The investment sum for the construction and the necessary intralogistics amounts to 10 million euros. The first construction phase started in January 2018.
The extension doubles the area of the existing building in Osnabrück from 5,700 sqm to 11,400 sqm. As a result of the expansion, the total effective area of the logistics centre can even be more than tripled - from 9,000 to 29,000 square metres. "The expansion of our strategically important location in Osnabrück is another significant part of our growth strategy," says Werner Hüttenbrink, Head of Operations Warehousing Solutions at Meyer & Meyer. A partly automated intralogistics system with modern conveyor and stage technology will be integrated into the new building complex, ensuring fast and secure processing of B2B and B2C orders. The construction partner for the project is R&W System GmbH based in Meppen. After a construction period of only eight months, the expansion area is already scheduled for startup at the end of August 2018. The expansion will also create new jobs at the Osnabrück site. " We are planning the deployment of up to 50 new employees for the smooth operation of the new plant. After the significant growth of our location in Peine over the past few years, we are now looking forward to further strengthening our traditional Osnabrück location," says Werner Hüttenbrink.
