How did you get the dual study program at Meyer & Meyer?
I came into contact with dual studies through school. Then, after researching further about the possibilities and types of dual studies, I came across the Institute for Dual Studies (IDS) at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. The IDS is located at the Lingen campus and usually holds an applicant training session every year. On this day, the young people are trained in how to prepare an application and how to face various recruitment procedures. In addition, a large number of cooperating companies present themselves. The company Meyer & Meyer also gave a short presentation on this day. The personnel officer Eva Hummel-Schröer was also available for questions after the presentation and thus the first contact with the company was established.
What did you expect from your dual study program and have your expectations been met?
What I hoped for most from a dual study program was a stronger connection to practice. It was clear to me from the start that I didn't want to study purely full-time. The dual study program is a good alternative for me to combine theory and practice. This expectation has also been confirmed. The block study phase gave me a good insight into the various theoretical principles of the different business management areas. In the subsequent practical phase, I can then put what I have learned into practice. The homework in particular provides me with the links between theory and practice.
What tasks did you particularly enjoy during your first year of dual studies at Meyer & Meyer?
During the practical phases of my studies, I was already able to support many departments. In the various departments, I have supported projects, assisted with daily tasks and got to know nice colleagues. So far, I have been in the HR department, the Controlling department and the IT department during my practical phases. I have also had the opportunity to spend a few weeks looking at the company's scheduling tasks. During this time, my interest in the company's sales and sales management has grown. I am allowed to support these during my current practical phase. I have enjoyed many of my tasks very much. I think that this will also be the case in the future and that I will find my place in the company at the end of my dual studies.
How were you integrated into the company as a dual student? Did you feel sufficiently looked after?
At the beginning of the professional training, Meyer & Meyer always holds the familiarization days with all apprentices. Fortunately, I was able to experience these days without any Corona restrictions and I'm very grateful for that. The familiarization days are a great way to get to know the other trainees and the company. You quickly make contacts and can get to know the company better. At that time, we took a tour of the warehouse and introduced ourselves directly to the department in which we were to spend the first few days of our training. Thanks to the personnel officer Eva Hummel-Schröer and other trainers, I always have someone to talk to if I have any questions about my training. I found my start to the dual study program at Meyer & Meyer very pleasant and feel well looked after now, too.
What tips do you have for anyone who is also interested in a dual study program at Meyer & Meyer?
I think it's difficult to formulate general tips. However, it's important to me that you show people and colleagues that you'd like to support them and that no task is too 'shameful' for you. For me, it's a matter of course that as a dual student you ask open questions and want to understand all the company's procedures and processes. So as a future dual student at Meyer & Meyer, you should be open to everything, ask questions if you don't understand something, express your concerns and wishes, and convey to your colleagues that you want to support them.
